STEPPING OUT
Lesson Format
- WALT: retell the Billy Goats Gruff story by stepping out a mindmap
- Children in a circle
- Together the children put the visual retelling sequence cards in order.
- Two children role model stepping out
- rather than words - children encouraged to use actions and minimum words to explain each step
- The children did find this hard to do - many were retelling the story word by word.
- Limited actions
- Teacher input needed for the children to use the actions
- Children step out on the tennis court.
- All in one line - choose a line to walk along.
- did not work well as individuals
- It was better to have all going at the some time and to do the steps and actions together.
- Management - teacher to stand in-between the group
- Back inside the classroom
- Recapped on stepping out using actions.
- Two children had a go
- Children tend to be very quietly spoken
- Still want to 'retell the story using words' rather then actions.
REFLECTION:
- Great to see how the actions are used in STEPPING OUT.
- Next time - get the children to work in pairs; practice in pairs and then share back to class.
- Word Vocab - for each sequence card get the children to brainstorm and share the main words used at each step - this might help for the children to STEP OUT correctly.
